What is it like to live in a secretive communist dictatorship? "The first time that Brit Simon Cockerell visited North Korea, he noticed how clean it seemed. The air was not polluted like in Beijing, where he has lived since 2000. Another curiosity also struck him: In the capital of Pyongyang, there were no advertisements or billboards, and there was no traffic." CNN

As requested: Language Analysis Example (To be presented more formally at a later date!)
Marquand uses colourful language to highlight the over the top nature of child beauty pageants and the way in which these young girls are presented. References to “oversized hairstyles”,” megawatt smiles” and words like ‘cheesy’ and ‘kitsch’ reinforce her view that beauty pageants of this sort are ugly in their very nature. She goes so far as to characterise the involvement of children in these practices as “downright disturbing”, clearly illustrating for the reader her view that these practices are abhorrent and should not be be allowed.

"There are wheels within wheels in this village, and fires within fires." Act 1 Sc 4
Set in the village of Salem, Masachusetts in 1692 this allegorical tale draws parallels between the Salem witch hunt of that year and McCarthyism in the 1950s.
